Gasses

Oxygen | O2 | An oxidizer and required for human life, it is the second most common gas that you'll be dealing with. Do not use it with the supermatter, it speeds up the reaction and will catch fire if mixed with phoron, which you can normally also find inside the SM chamber. | Low |
Nitrogen | N2 | An inert gas, nitrogen is the primary gas that you'll be working with while an engineer. It does not catch on fire when exposed to flames, and it slows the supermatter reaction. The atmosphere of the ship contains around 80% nitrogen at any given time. | Normal |
Carbon Dioxide | CO2 | Another inert gas, CO2 is the least common gas you will be working with by far. It can only be found in any reasonable capacity inside of atmospherics. It is not recommended to be used in the supermatter as it is hardly better than nitrogen but causes problems with expansion after being heated. | Normal |
Nitrous Oxide | N2O | Also known as laughing gas, N2O is not flammable at room temperature, but because a very powerful oxidizer when heated. It also has the ability to cause drowsiness in humans and, if exposed to it for long enough, you are likely to fall asleep. It's what the surgical anesthetic tanks use to put you asleep, but does not exist outside of those tanks or atmospherics in any reasonable capacity. | Normal |
Phoron | PH | An incredibly dangerous gas, PH is the third common gas that you will be seeing. Highly toxic to humans and incredibly flammable when mixed with oxygen, it is not recommended to be bothered with unless you are absolutely certain of what you are doing. | High |

Supermatter Applications
If you're feeling particularly ballsy, you may attempt to modify the supermatter by cooling it with a different type of coolant. Always be sure to ahelp
FIRST, and get admin approval before you touch the supermatter.
Oxygen
Never, ever, ever use oxygen in the supermatter. It increases the reaction rate, which will lead to an explosion in almost every situation. The ONLY application of oxygen in the supermatter would be to coldstart it, a process that starts the engine without the use of an emitter. But you have an emitter, so you should never be using oxygen.
Nitrogen
Nitrogen slows the reaction of the supermatter, making it a very effectively gas to stop the supermatter from exploding when somebody has messed up. It's also what is pumped into the engine by default. It has a relatively average heating capacity, and will work for almost every situation. Nitrogen is also inert, meaning that the chamber will not catch fire under normal circumstances.
Phoron
Phoron, while not having the same reaction slowing effects of nitrogen, has a heat capacity 1000% times that of Nitrogen, making it a far more effective coolant. Be careful though, as phoron reacting with oxygen at high temperatures can cause sparking, flash fires, and a full reactor meltdown if not dealt with. If you set up the SM with phoron, expect some sparking and small fires inside of the chamber, as the SM releases small amounts of oxygen. These shouldn't be dangerous, but be sure to keep an eye on it anyways.
Carbon Dioxide
Carbon dioxide, while having a slightly higher heat capacity than nitrogen and while also being inert, is prone to heavy expansion when heated, and as such should not be used in the supermatter. It is also incredibly difficult to acquire without a hefty amount of atmospherics re-piping.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, at high temperatures, becomes an amazingly potent oxidizer. As such, it should most likely not be used in the supermatter, lest it catch fire and melt down.
